Don’t Close Your Eyes

leave a comment »

I heard Switchfoot’s song, This is Your Life, on the radio during lunch.

The words of that song are such a great reminder for me.

don’t close your eyes, don’t close your eyes
this is your life and today is all you’ve got now
yeah, and today is all you’ll ever have
don’t close your eyes
don’t close your eyes

Catch of The Day

with one comment

Yesterday at church, I led my class of 4 year olds through an activity where each of them had to answer a few basic questions like…

What is your favorite thing to do?

Where is your favorite place to go?

What is your favorite food?

The 1st two answers on the favorite food question were………

  • Atlantic Salmon
  • Grilled Mahi Mahi

I guess times have changed. Whatever happened to Mac & Cheese, Grilled Cheese sandwiches, and Peanut Butter & Jelly?

What I’m Learning

leave a comment »

Mark Batterson included the following quote from a John Ortberg article in a post today.

People don’t care what I know. They care about what I’m learning.

I love that because that is what this blog is all about.

If you’re a regular reader and your tuning in to read about what I know, you’re in trouble.

This blog is mostly about what I’m learning. I’m learning as I go.

Death by Email

leave a comment »

I have a process for work email that used to work fairly well.

I like my Inbox to be an Inbox…….not a Stay There For a Long Time Box.

An email comes in…..

  • I skim through it.
  • If the email requires nothing from me and I don’t need it for future reference, I delete it.
  • If it requires a response or a quick action that takes less than 1 minute of my time, I go ahead and do it immediately.
  • If it requires a response or action from me that takes longer than 1 minute, I copy it into a Task for me to work on at a future time.
  • If it doesn’t require action from me, but I could need the email for future reference I move it into an archive folder.

Unfortunately, that process isn’t working anymore.

I am drowning in email.

I have to try something different. Maybe set aside certain times of the day to process email.

Anyone else drowning in email? Any suggestions?

Stupid Phone Call

leave a comment »

Just got a really stupid automated phone call from AT&T.

The call asked me if I recently received an AT&T phone book.

I was supposed to push 1 if I received it and 2 if I did not receive it.

I made up a third option and pressed…….

3) Please don’t waste paper and money printing and delivering phone books to my house. They have this new, really cool thing called the internet that works much better. And if you do, please don’t call my house to ask me about it.

A Beautiful Mix

leave a comment »

As I mentioned in my prior post, the weather in my area has been beautiful. Unfortunately, I woke up this morning feeling a little ‘under the weather’.

So I spent my afternoon watching The Masters with my 3 year old son. He fell asleep, but I really enjoyed the broadcast.

CBS did a fine job. It was a beautiful mix of…….

  • tradition & history
  • technology and innovation

Amen Corner, Rae’s Creek, the live oaks, the pines, the 3 bridges, the Green Jacket……all of it looked incredible in HD.

The computer animated shots of the course were like artwork.

And the tracer technology that CBS used to show the trajectory of each shot was a nice touch.

It’s Worse Than I Thought

with one comment

The “recession”, high energy costs, and “climate crisis” must be worse than I thought.

They have caused a cucumber shortage!

Here is what the sign said on the counter at the deli today……….

We apologize, but due to a cucumber shortage, we are unable to serve pickle spears with our sandwiches at this time.

Pike Place Roast at Starbucks Today

with 2 comments

Starbuck’s has been hyping up a big change for a while now. It is part of the Starbuck’s transformation being led by CEO Howard Schultz.

The big change is the introduction of its new daily brew, Pike Place Roast.

CEO Howard Schultz says…

In my opinion and that of several others who have tasted this incredible coffee, Pike Place Roast is truly one of the best coffees we have offered our customers in our 37-year history and it will reinvent brewed coffee.

So being the Starbucks fan that I am, I had to try one this morning.

  • Very tasty. Seemed fresher than usual. They will be brewing fresh batches of Pike Place every 30 mins.
  • Looks like they will still offer another rotating daily brew, but only until noon each day. Pike Place will be offered all day.
  • The ‘Short’ size is now listed on the menu.
  • Mistos (daily brew with steamed milk) are now listed on the menu.
  • They have a chalkboard sign that indicates the date that the Pike Place beans were roasted. (3/23 for me this morning)
