The “That’s the way we’ve always done things” Syndrome

I make my living as a Product Manager of an internal procurement system at HP.

My group at work, like many other groups I have worked with, sometimes suffers from what I call the “That’s the way we’ve always done things” syndrome.

I am sure many of you have experienced this on your team at work, within your church, or even within your own family.

People will often reject a new solution, a new method, a new idea merely because the new way would require them to let go of the old way that they have become so used to.

Tom Grant at the Forrester Product Management Blog had a nice post about this

A nice line from his post………

Someone just has to decide that the current situation isn’t justified simply because “That’s the way we’ve always done things,” or, “We’re afraid of the costs.”
